Passages Vol.1: Bakur by Bakur

Shika Shika is very excited to announce the first in our new series Passages, a new series of mini EPs where we invite artists to tell their story of migration through music.

Passages will put the spotlight on one artist that migrated, for positive or negative reasons to find a new home far from their roots. This series is about earthly connections, borderless culture, new perspectives and multicultural souls. All of the Shika Shika team and many of our family of artists are migrants in one way or another, taking a lot of inspiration from this heady mix of our roots and the new cultures that we needed to get adapted to. This movement changed our minds and touched our souls and undoubtedly marked our creativity and musical vision.

For the first volume, we invited the up and coming Armenian producer and DJ Bakur who mixes the memories of the mountains of Vanadzor with his experiences that shaped his identity growing up in his beloved Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he moved at age of 12.

The three tracks on this EP mix Bakur’s beautiful futuristic deep, dub-electronica with hints of vocal and instrumental folk nostalgia from another time or another place. We embark on a journey by an artist beginning to carve out his own sound, mixing his own experience split
between these two worlds, languages and cultures and everything else in between.
