BREF AVENIR by DJ OIL

We are contrarians at LDDLM, sometimes even proud of it, as when a new DJ OIL record comes out. We had been long friends, going back to the time of Troublemakers, a rare French band from Marseille signed on Chicago’s 90s finest, Guidance, and we had followed (albeit with one eye) DJ OIL’s foray into Jazz and Afrobeat (BBE). We were on our different musical paths but you know… And when Oil sent us “Rain”, his first ep on LDDLM, it was like finding back a long lost friend AND we knew it would raise a few eyebrows (belonging to those who forgot to read our “the style of no style” motto).
The 3 DJ OIL EPs are compiled in BREF AVENIR, a digital pack also including unreleased tracks.
It’s quite hard for us to describe Oil’s talent here but the sense it makes does jump out : some kind of totally fucked-up respect for house tradition (samples-samples-samples), a love for spoken word, weird wavey and electro influences. This is a true mess that always makes sense in its simplicity, and we are so happy to see a lot of people seem to get the sheer sincerity of the guy (BREF AVENIR was album of of the month in TRAX magazine)

All three 12”s are still available in vinyl from your favourite shop. Enjoy it all.

All the love from LDDLM.
