Toy Carousel by Zakir
Sol Selectas welcomes back Russian artist Zakir for his third Ep, with two original songs inspired by his daughter.
While working in the studio at home, Zakir’s daughter was always playing with her toys in the background, and the playful sounds of those toys appear in both songs. Using a Roland 303 as a foundation, Zakir builds the subtle bass line melodies on “Toy Carousel”, which open up and brighten the track with a festive mood. “Whirligig” also incorporates an acid line, which slowly evolves in a dubby progression, surrounded by swinging percussive elements, and ethereal chants.
For the remix of “Toy Carousel” we welcome Isreali producer Kadosh for the 1st time on Sol Selectas. His afro house rework adds lush keys and spacey pads to the original, creating a beautiful hypnotic mood. And lastly UK’s Kincaid returns to the label with a mind bending Twirly Wig remix of “Whirligig”. He slows the tempo down and concentrates on the acid lines, building and building the tension to a point of near insanity, and the brings it all back to a smooth downbeat groove.
The artwork by Helia Jamali shows the playful nature of the music, woven into the fabric of our galactic cosmos.
